Why Developers Are Building So Many Side Projects (future.com)

Here are my reasons:

- Solve a problem for myself

- Learn new tech stack that I don't get to at work with hope that it might increase my salary one day

- Make some side income

- Chance of it becoming a real business

This but also, I want to turn the second one around a little:

- Learn new tech stack that I don't get to at work with hope that it might keep me employable in case I am laid off

It's a cutthroat field with the top 20% making an order of magnitude more money.

Start a side business or a side project as practice or get publicity

Cause it’s fun? And as a byproduct of that, you might even earn some money on the side.

It’s a win-win.

Because they are "developers"....they like to develop things!
Burned too much time on side (tech) projects during the Pandemic. Now I am slowly trying to return to doing hobbies, painting :)

I have decided that it's better to have hobbies that aren't related to your day-to-day job
