I wish to see a simple RPG on the command line. There be games like Nethack, but those require far too many keys to be enjoyable for that medium. I would like to port this, if you don't mind.
I have a soft spot for these casual spur-of-the-moment type TTRPGs. As much as I love my indepth, rules filled games, it is nice to have something that you can use when inspiration hits and you just want to get into some roleplaying.
About a year ago I tried to find a most elegant, distilled TTRPG. I was delighted with "Roll for shoes" rules:
- Your character begins with a single starting skill Do Anything (1).
- Any time you preform action that might fail, select a character skill that applies and roll that number of dices. The GM sets the target you are rolling against.
- If you roll all sixes, your character learns a new skill specific to the attempted action, at proficiency one level higher than the one you used.
- For every roll you fail you get 1 XP, which can be used up to eliminate a non-6 dice for purposes of skill advancement.
- At the start of a game, roll to check if you have shoes.
