Show HN: EchoRecipes – A Virtual Assistant for Cooking (echorecipes.com)
2 points by bmease 1418 days ago
Hey HN! I'm Bradley the creator of Echo Recipes a virtual assistant for cooking. Echo reads recipes out loud and reacts to voice commands allowing you to focus on cooking.

Echo is a passion project to help me get better at cooking. Right now it's a minimum viable product of reading recipes out loud, responding to basic voice commands, and a simple interface to organize your recipes.

I would love any feedback, questions, advice, or suggestions that you have.

The import recipe function works smoothly. I'd love to see this as a Google Home/Alexa app so I don't need to touch my phone at all while my hands are dirty.
I'm a relatively serious at home cook and here's my feedback: usually it helps to read a recipe from top to bottom and get a rough idea for all the steps, rather than reading linearly sequentially, so I didn't love having to click through every step of the example and then presumably every step "Back" to go back to the start. I'd suggest offering a way to see the whole recipe all at once
I totally agree with you. Once you're registered and using the site I do provide the entire recipe on a single page. Then when you're ready to cook it goes into the single step by step mode. For the demo page I was trying to show off the step by step mode and didn't even think about how that would come across. I'll have a rethink of how I display the demo. Thanks!
Cool, good luck with the project!
