Web browsers are already filling in the role of "super-apps." I can connect to thousands of services across the planet without leaving the window of my browser. What need will a potential super-app address that the open web can't?
Yes you're right. But I think what they call super app is something like wechat, a single place that gather/merge services like facebook/uber/amazon/whatsapp/youtube. So users don't leave this single ecosystem that has only one password, one access and most importantly your credit card is stored without having to create 1000 of differents accounts around the open web.
So a lot like WeChat, which fosters its own internal mini program ecosystem and platform.

This is a marketing article, likely to push a company's (PayPal?) agenda
Yes, it seems like the survey was paid for by PayPal. But I don't think they are the ones that would win this super app war. Maybe uber is more likely with food/trips/bookings but shopping and communication are still missing. Facebook no way, google can't innovate, can't think of any of the actual players.
Survey: 3 out of 4 consumers with strong demand for Super Horse
Interesting how they defined strong demand. In the breakdown they say:

'..with 72% of all respondents at least “slightly” interested and 25% “very” or “extremely” interested'.

To me that is 1 in 4 strong demand, not 3 in 4.

Survey question: Do you want super-apps or not-super-apps?
