I've long suffered this problem but lately I'm taking a two pronged approach:

1) Be very strict about quality control. Seek out quality information. Do I have to study every philosopher? Obviously not, because I don't have time for that. Which 5 philosophers will I get the most from?

2) I'm writing my own personal recommendation engine that sits between myself an the internet. I hope to use data mining and data training techniques to present to myself quality links in the areas of interest. This tool will "know" me and what I am interested in because I have trained it that way.
