Strange article. Another taking an absolute position in a grey world. “Math” is a spectrum for which everybody essentially can be in the centre left. Quantum chemists approximate the hell out of quantum physics as it’s not necessary and simplifies math. Every other type of chemist pretty much ignores as much calculus as possible as it’s not relevant to their work. Etc.
Arithmetic is fundamental and necessary. Algebra is probably fundamental to stem fields. Everything beyond that is quite limited and discipline specific. And I doubt it’s discussed much in the companies HN readers inhabit.
