TLDW: Like most things, confidence has multiple exit ramps on the highway of life. Conventional confidence advice often says...

1. "To be confident you need to have competence" (Dan Lok)- but if you're reading Hacker News you're probably already playing in the big leagues. So competence isn't your problem.

2. "The world is filled with idiots so you should just be confident" (Alain de Botton). But I do not work with idiots and alot you don't either.

3. "If you're surrounded by people who take away your confidence find better people" (Mel Robbins). But if you've ever made or coded anything, you know that you need criticism.

4. "Confidence is an inside job, you fear the things that aren't real" (Sadhguru/ Brendon Burchard). The 'all in your head' school of thought is cute if you never leave your corporate job but making your own pay check is definitely real.
