> there’s one use-case I’m looking forward to for the releases of Red Team Blues and The Lost Cause: custom USB drives for distribution to booksellers while on tour.

Targeted distribution of USB flash drives, and they're even labeled "Red Team". :)

How is centralising blogging on Medium not contributing to surveillance capitalisum?
His other blog, Boing Boing, used to run a ton of anti facebook content with Like icon under every single one of them. I got banned from commenting for pointing that out :-)
Cory's no longer associated with Boing Boing (and it never was "his" blog, but Mark Frauenfelder's -- Cory just wrote there)
So Cory Doctorow, an expert in all things imaginative hacking techniques, hands out USB sticks to publishers and book sellers.
Wow now you have to login or install the app to read a full article. I wish CD would just use Wordpress or Ghost.
I feel like these days if you want to succeed at something you need to also be at least as good at marketing as you are at the thing you are trying to succeed at.
Or get noticed by the right person/people.

I think one of the issues is that as a species we are now much more talented than we were in the past through increased information transfer and improved education. If someone was absolutely amazing at, say, playing the piano 200 years ago, word would spread and they'd build up a reputation. Nowadays, I can go on to YouTube or Twitch and see thousands of people who are virtuosos of any instrument I could care to listen to.

So to counter that, you need some other sort of edge or understanding of a market that could benefit you.. and thus begins marketing :-)

This would be a great blog title for something about ZFS.
That is what has drawn me to the article.
Doctorow behind a paywall. That's something new. (Yes you can presumably create a free account, but you still pay with your data).
