> there’s one use-case I’m looking forward to for the releases of Red Team Blues and The Lost Cause: custom USB drives for distribution to booksellers while on tour.
Targeted distribution of USB flash drives, and they're even labeled "Red Team". :)
His other blog, Boing Boing, used to run a ton of anti facebook content with Like icon under every single one of them. I got banned from commenting for pointing that out :-)
I feel like these days if you want to succeed at something you need to also be at least as good at marketing as you are at the thing you are trying to succeed at.
I think one of the issues is that as a species we are now much more talented than we were in the past through increased information transfer and improved education. If someone was absolutely amazing at, say, playing the piano 200 years ago, word would spread and they'd build up a reputation. Nowadays, I can go on to YouTube or Twitch and see thousands of people who are virtuosos of any instrument I could care to listen to.
So to counter that, you need some other sort of edge or understanding of a market that could benefit you.. and thus begins marketing :-)
