The Delirious Cult of Recreational Benadryl Users (melmagazine.com)

I hate seeing articles about Benadryl. Almost none of them talk about any of the side effects that I had when I was a recreational user. Akathisia. Inner restlessness. It is the worst feeling ever. Plus all of these articles always talk about how it's "like acid". What in the holy fuck? No! It's the feeling of staying up for 5 days in a row condensed into 4 to 6 hours. You'll be manually breathing and unable to sleep.
This stuff is bad and it's sad that kids are still messing with it, but it's interesting that translucent spiders and hat men are still being reported ~15 years after my own adolescent flirtation with Benadryl. I wonder how much of it is culturally transmitted.
> It’s a drug — if you take too much too often, it can absolutely create a dependence.

This is false. Dependency potential is always a function of a drug’s effect on individuals. There is no universal drug that everyone using it will absolutely become addicted.
