interesting idea. the first question I had while going through that site, was "What's the data source?"
also after looking at the free guide for Mexico, i was hoping to see something more relevant to "working remotely" as apposed to population and region for example.
That's good feedback, thanks. This is mostly for people already working remotely. First is getting basic country information in one place (fact, visas, etc.), then information on getting settled, such as how to rent or open a bank account.
I clicked 'Get Started', and it wants me to sign up for lifetime access.
As I understand it, this is probably just an automated questionnaire that spits out a country name at the end, right? (Is it more complex than that?) There's also no way to test out the product: you need to buy before using.
> If you work remotely and want to see where in the world is suitable for you to live and work from, then this is for you.
and links to the paid page. But:
* What will it show me?
* What info is there that I can't glean just by searching online?
* How does it work? Does it ask me questions and give a suitable country/ies?
There's _no information_. Nothing about what the service really provides.
I did find your list of locations: https://remotechoice.co/location-list and I note they all seem to be along the equator, plus or minus, with a few exceptions like Germany. Where's Estonia, one of the highest-tech countries in the world... but far north? Where are Russia, Japan, New Zealand?
Then there is a free guide to see what you get (also took some finding): https://remotechoice.co/free-guide/mexico which contains next to no information at all. Not even irrelevant info to choosing the country for remote working - there's literally almost no info there, relevant or not! It has some basic stats (population, currency, phone calling code etc), three "random facts", a Google Map showing where it is, brief visa info that is the sort of data you usually trust the embassy website to get, a list of places containing... two... and a video.
That's it.
If I'm considering remote working, I choose based on other info. For example:
* What is the culture like: what sort of culture shock will I experience?
* In practice, how well can I get by in [my native language]?
* Are things like working in cafes accepted? (It's not everywhere; some countries view taking up a seat for hours per coffee as close to theft.)
* How easy is it to meet people? Cultures vary very widely here. How easy is it to meet people who are not also expats / remote workers? How easy is it to integrate into society?
* Is there a startup culture?
* What's the healthcare like?
* What's the food like? Is it easy to find food for various diets?
* What's the cost of living - not as an index, but in practice? What does a $250, $500 and $1000 / month apartment look like?
The concept of a resource about remote working looks useful as a free site - the sort of thing an altruistic traveller would put together - but this doesn't seem to provide useful information for choosing a country to live in; it makes it difficult to find what info you will be given; and I am not sure why I'd need lifetime access to it.
All good feedback, thanks! I purposefully started out basic to test if this is something people wanted. The payment is low enough to allow for this. The goal was to launch then iterate.
I've noted what you'd look for.
Glad it was useful. I hadn't realised how early-stage the website was... I think you can read my puzzlement in the comment :) The roadmap looks good and I look forward to seeing a updated version sometime!
(Btw, I remotely work myself, so if the website is useful would find it a great resource.)
