You'd think starting a reliable hosting business wouldn't be so hard, but Before digital ocean, I've used 3 other companies to host my businesses and had some pretty terrible experiences:

- joyent end of lifed the servers I was on, causing me to have to switch away from using them. - serverpronto had numerous downtime, too many times to count and server connectivity issues - rimuhosting nearly destroyed my business when their servers had intermittent hardware problems.

Then digital ocean came along and I've been using them for over 5 years. So far, no problems at all. Count me in as a happy customer.

Low margins + significant capex for equipment and opex for support and engineering makes it a hard business to sustain.

Disclosure: Built, ran, and sold a hosting company in the early 00s.

They're great while things work. If shit hits the fan, there's no support.
