>Algorithms, he says, are reducing everything to "subject matter or genre", rendering any kind of curation, and understanding of artistic worth, meaningless.

I have to agree with Scorsese. They talk about how much Netflix does to personalize the recommendations but they have never been worse than they are today. No matter how many times I like or dislike anything Netflix keeps recommending things I really don't want to watch (no one is using my profile but me). If it is supposed to be that good then why does watching for example stand-up end up with it recommanding all stand-up to me? It seems to me all it really does is go "he liked an action movie, let's recommend some action to him" which is like recommending a meal at a restaurant based on if your last meal was hot or cold.

Netflix is IMO a perfect example of how quickly it can go down hill. The recommendation used to be like Google Search. Now it is like Bing. What happened to the Netflix that let you like and dislike on the website and had a competition to find the best way to recommend the correct content to a user? Now it is basically like a YouTube clone for streaming with like and dislikes that are totally irrelevant (like... YouTube).

Old man yells at cloud. (literally)

I feel so sad for Scorsese to have gone from maverick outsider to becoming the epitome of ossified establishment insider. I guess the Oscar and legendary status make up for knowing that you have survived the industry long enough to become what you once despised.
